Roots, Roads and Rainbow

In this workshop we will offer a space and a set of interdisciplinary tools from our own practices that can help young artists* to connect with the roots of their art making: Why am I an artist? What is my vision? What do I need to share with the world, even if they don’t want to hear it? What kind of environment do I need in order to flourish?

The university routine easily overlooks those questions, while concept, technique, zeitgeist and style get the focus. Following the motto “Art is important. Artists are more important.” (G. Galazan), we will bring our human selves back to the core of our art.

This shift has great political impact since it unmasks a whole system of competition, oppression and injustice which prioritizes our artistic output over us, undermining our integrity and our solidarity with other artists. We will look at these structures and how they influence our lives.

In an atmosphere of calm and non-judgemental curiosity, we will practice listening to each other as a way to find out about our artistic heart, and to open up for somebody else’s core questions. We will use performative biography work, our bodies and voices, colour and paper to connect, trust and empower each other.

We will access our potential, broaden our perspective, mirror and confront, shake up, create empathy with ourselves and our colleagues and by doing so transform reality. At the end of the week, we will give an insight into our process by sharing some of our practices with the audience.
